Should Legal Aid Be Part of the King County Veterans and Human Services Levy?

By Jay Doran

In 2017, King County residents will vote on the renewal of the Veterans and Human Services Levy (VHSL), and the County is currently exploring the possibility of including civil legal aid as a part of the strategy for a renewed Veterans and Human Services Levy.

The current VHSL, which was renewed by voters in August of 2011, is set to expire in 2017. The money generated from this levy funds a wide range of programs. Currently, funds are split 50:50, providing services to either (1) veterans, military personnel, and their families or (2) individuals and families in need.

In preparation for the renewal vote in 2017, King County is convening a series of community conversations to receive input on what a renewed VHSL could and should look like. These conversations are opportunities for residents, recipients of services, service providers, and experts to voice what is important to them as the County prepares a plan for what a renewed levy could do for the community.

If you’re interest in providing input and advocating for the importance of civil legal aid, please consider attending one of the below community conversations.
