Meet Ingrid Zerpa, 2015 Goldmark Equal Justice Intern

The Goldmark Intern for 2015, Seattle University law student, Ingrid Zerpa spent her eight week internship with the STAR project in Walla Walla, WA where she worked to change practice related to how Legal Financial Obligations. The March 2015 Washington Supreme Court ruling, State v. Blazina (.pdf), which allows the sentencing judge to take a person’s ability to pay LFOs into account them during sentencing.

Ms. Zerpa organized a CLE on LFOs to share best practices among the legal community; 40 attendees came from across the state, and many attendees report the session is changing how LFOs are addressed by clients, their lawyers and judges during sentencing.
